The 2013 Mergier Bourdeix Prize has been jointly awarded to Sylvia Serfaty, Professor of Mathematics at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris, and to Pierre Vanhove, Physicist at IPhT, CEA Saclay.

The Mergier Bourdeix Prize is one of the Grands Prix de l'Académie des Sciences: "It is awarded every year to a young French researcher working on fundamental scientific problems not directed towards immediate applications, and whose results reveal an exceptional talent.

Pierre Vanhove mostly works on string theory.
