Large deviation theory in statistical physics

Large deviation theory in statistical physics

Large deviation theory made its way into statistical physics in the 1970s and 80s as a mathematical framework for studying equilibrium systems, and is now increasingly used for studying nonequilibrium systems driven in steady states. In this talk, we will review some aspects of the large deviation theory and discuss recent applications to nonequilibrium statistical mechanics.
