Gravitational Couplings and Modern Methods in Conformal Field Theory

I will discuss some analytic tools in conformal field theory via the conformal bootstrap program, and what they can teach us about the structure of low-energy gravitational actions. Applications will include constraints on the stress tensor in both generic and large N conformal field theories, and an AdS/CFT derivation of the leading non-trivial terms in a long-wavelength expansion of the M-theory action.
