Geometric Transitions, Black Rings, and the Black Hole Information Paradox

Geometric Transitions, Black Rings, and the Black Hole Information Paradox

I will discuss how to construct black rings both using D-branes and in supergravity. I will then discuss the geometric transitions of black rings, which result in smooth horizon-less geometries that can be thought of as microstates of the three-charge black hole. I will then present arguments that the microstates of this black hole might be smooth horizon-less geometries, and describe the implications of this fact for the physics of black holes.
