Fluctuations and frictionless thermostats in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics

Fluctuations and frictionless thermostats in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics

Gaussian thermostats allowed in the 80’s the emergence of new ideas and results in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics and later the derivation of a few parameterless predictions, but they are often considered artificial and unphysical: nevertheless their equivalence to frictionless thermostats in the sense of Feynman-Vernon can be shown to hold in the thermodynamic limit.
