Marc Barthelemy receives the Prix Jean Ricard 2024 from the Société Française de Physique

The Prix Jean Ricard is awarded each year by the Société Française de Physique to a researcher who has distinguished himself/herself by outstanding and original work in the field of physics, whether theoretical or experimental.

The Prix Jean Ricard 2024 is awarded to Marc Barthelemy.

A former student at the École Normale Supérieure de Paris (rue d’Ulm), Marc Barthelemy is a researcher at the Institut de Physique Théorique de Saclay (CEA, CNRS), and an associate member of the Centre d’Analyse et de Mathématique Sociales at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS).

Marc Barthelemy’s research focuses on the application of statistical physics to complex systems, in particular complex networks, theoretical epidemiology and spatial networks. Combining data analysis and modeling using statistical physics tools, he also explores various aspects of the emerging science of cities.

Marc Barthelemy is co-author or author of several books:

  • Dynamic processes in complex networks (Cambridge 2008) ;
  • The structure and dynamics of cities (Cambridge 2016) ;
  • Morphogenesis of spatial networks (Springer 2017);
  • Spatial networks (Springer 2022);
  • Statistics and dynamics of urban populations (Oxford 2023);
  • A “public outreach” book on networks (Odile Jacob 2023).
