Particle production in the classical field model for heavy ion collisions

Particle production in the classical field model for heavy ion collisions

I would like to report on joint work with N. Burq in which we show lower bounds on concentration of eigenfunctions for a class of billiards including the Sinai and Bunimovich billiards. Although this work is motivated by our abstract work on control in the presence of a “black box”, the proofs are elementary. We report on numerical computations of gluon multiplicity and transverse energy in central relativistic heavy ion collisions within the classical field model of McLerran and Venugopalan. After an error in earlier calculations has been corrected the model yields results that are in better agreement with experimental results and theoretical expectations. We also report on ongoing work to study chemical equilibration by nonperturbatively computing the quark-antiquark production from the classical color fields in the same framework. This is a simple example of a quantum field theory formulated on a curved space-time that exhibits interesting phenomena due to negative curvature. Exact results concerning correlation functions and formfactors, as well as an analysis of the thermodynamical properties, are presented.
