I will present some aspects of linear dilaton backgrounds, which are believed to be holographically dual to non-gravitational little string theories. I will start with the six-dimensional little string theory corresponding to the background of parallel fivebranes, and present recent results about its D-branes, in relation with Hanany-Witten configurations. Then I will discuss the lower dimensional theories which are less understood, with a special emphasis on the four-dimensional ones which are dual to superconformal field theories in 3+1 dimensions.
