"He is interested in quantum physics and statistical physics, in particular the concepts of matrices and random geometries, both for quantum gravitation, particle physics and the dynamics of quantum systems, and for models inspired by biology. He has made pioneering contributions in these fields."

François is currently Director of Research Emeritus at the CNRS. He has been a researcher at the Institut de Physique Théorique (CEA, UMR 3681 CNRS) since 1980. He was the head of the IPhT from 2017 to 2022.
