Philippe di Francesco, researcher at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, professor at the University of Illinois, and member of the French Academy of Sciences since January 2025, will hold the La Vallée Poussin Chair at the Catholic University of Louvain for the year 2025.
Since its creation in 2001, the La Vallée Poussin Chair has been awarded each year to an eminent figure in the world of mathematics. It takes the form of a four-day international conference in Louvain-la-Neuve, in the amphitheater of the same name. An inaugural lecture is given on the first day, followed by three more in-depth presentations on the subject over the following days.
The Vallée-Poussin Chair is named after Charles de la Vallée Poussin, one of Belgium’s greatest mathematicians. He was a professor at UCLouvain from 1891 to 1962.
As part of the chair, a workshop bringing together researchers working on combinatorial models using methods inspired by integrable systems will be held at UC Louvain from November 18 to 20, 2025. Professor di Francesco will give the traditional four lectures.
Congratulations, Philippe!
