Since January 1, 2026, Francis Bernardeau is the new head of the IPhT. He succeeds Catherine Pépin, who held the position from January 1, 2022.

Since 1994, Francis Bernardeau is a researcher at the CEA assigned to the IPhT. He was director of the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris from 2014 to 2020 and deputy head of the Euclid consortium from 2020 to 2025.
His research activities focus on theoretical cosmology, including the exploration of inflationary models, the origin and evolution of the large‑scale structure of the Universe, the physics of gravitational lensing, and the cosmic microwave background.
