After years spent exploring the mysteries of condensed matter and leading the IPhT with her well-known passion, Catherine Pépin is preparing to embark on a new chapter of her professional life. The IPhT is deeply grateful to her for her unwavering energy and the excellence of her work across all fields.
Her major commitment to the institute’s reputation, both within and outside the CEA and CNRS, as well as her decisive drive to improve cohesion among all institute members, have left a lasting impression.

Because a transition is always a cause for celebration, all IPhT members were invited to gather around Catherine on December 15th in a warm and festive atmosphere. Speeches and numerous video testimonials illustrated the laboratory’s gratitude for Catherine’s work.
The new Director of the Institute will be Francis Bernardeau, effective January 1st, 2026. A huge thank you to Catherine on behalf of the entire Institute, and a warm welcome to Francis in his new role!
