Using a ten dimensional dual string background, we will present aspects of the physics of finite temperature large N four dimensional SU (N ) gauge theories, focusing on the dynamics of fundamental quarks in the presence of a background magnetic field. At zero temperature, the quark dynamics exhibit spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking when a magnetic field is present. However, at finite temperature, there is a non–trivial phase structure that results from the two competing parameters of temperature and magnetic field.
