11h15 - 12h15 Sylvia Serfaty (Jussieu & Courant Inst.)

11h15 - 12h15 Rémi Carles (Montpellier) Interaction of coherent states for Hartree equations

Résumé:
We consider the Hartree equation with a smooth kernel and an external potential, in the semiclassical regime. We analyze the propagation of two initial wave packets, and show different possible effects of the interaction, according to the size of the nonlinearity in terms of the semiclassical parameter. We describe three cases, and focus our attention on the "most nonlinear" one. In each case, the structure of the wave as a sum of two coherent states is preserved. However, the envelope and the center (in phase space) of these two wave packets are affected by nonlinear interferences, which are described precisely.

15h15 - 16h15 Stefan Teufel (Tübingen) Spontaneous Decay of Resonant Energy Levels for Molecules with Moving Nuclei

Résumé:
The goal of this work is to understand spontaneous emission of photons by dynamical molecules, e.g. during a chemical reaction, in the limit of small coupling to the field and heavy nuclei. There are two well understood limiting regimes: without coupling to the field the limit of heavy nuclei yields the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. For infinitely heavy nuclei the resonant states of the system have been studied in great detail during the recent years. We study the combined limit where the lifetime of the resonances is large on the time-scale of nuclear dynamics. In the Pauli-Fierz model we prove the validity of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation at leading order and compute the rate of spontaneous emission of photons. \\ This is joint work with Jakob Wachsmuth (arXiv:1109.0447v1).

 11h15 - 12h15 Jacob Schach Møller (Aarhus) Polaron-phonon scattering

Résumé:
In this talk I will discuss recent progress in understanding the structure of the continuous energy-momentum spectrum and scattering states for Fröhlich's polaron model. In particular I will formulate the notion of asymptotic completeness and clarify the role played by asymptotic fields. A key conceptual ingredient is the abandonment of the bare electron as a constituent part of the system, in place of the effective polaron which may appear in different states depending on the structure of mass shells. The configuration of mass shells induces a threshold structure analogous to the case of analytically fibered operators studied by Gérard and Nier. If time permits, I will explain how to construct useful propagation observables in the one-phonon sector by exploiting the structure of mass shells. The talk is based on joint work with Wojciech Dybalski and Morten Grud Rasmussen.

14h - 15h Roman Schubert (Bristol) Quantum normal forms and transition state theory: Microlocal analysis of chemical reactions

Résumé:
We consider the situation where after the Born-Oppenheimer approximation the dynamics of a molecule with N atoms is described by a semiclassical Schrödinger operator with a small parameter given by the ratio of the electron mass to the mass of the nuclei, and with a potential energy V(x) of the nuclei in the average field of the electrons in their ground state. For the dynamics of such a system a particularly important role is played by the critical points of V(x). Local minima correspond to stable configurations and a chemical reaction is a transition between two such minima, inbetween two minima the system has to cross a saddle point of V(x). The saddle point is called the transition state and we are interested in describing the dynamics near the transition state. To this end we use quantum normal form theory to approximate the Hamilton operator by a simpler one whose dynamics we can solve explicitly. This allows to compute a local S-matrix, resonances and reaction probabilities. We developed explicit algorithms to compute these quantities and we illustrate the results with some examples.

15h15 - 16h15 Mickaël Dos Santos (Créteil) Small impurities in a superconductor

Résumé:
We will present a study of a Ginzburg-Landau type energy where the potential part has a pinning term. This energy is a simplification of the Ginzburg-Landau energy which describes the state of a superconductor in presence of a magnetic field. The pinning term models impurities in the superconductor (a superconductor heterogeneous in temperature or in material); it models a doped superconductor. Using a mathematical artefact, we mimic the application of a magnetic field sufficiently strong in order to destroy the superconductivity in small areas. These areas are called vorticity defects. We will be interested in the situation where the pinning term models small impurities. The study will be dedicate to the pinning effect of the vorticity defects. In particular we will underline two consequences of the smallness of the impurities.

11h15 - 12h15 Georgi Raikov (Santiago de Chile) Resonances and spectral shift function singularities for a magnetic Schrödinger operator

Résumé:
Let H0 be the 3D Schrödinger operator with constant magnetic field, V be an electric potential which decays sufficiently fast at infinity, and H = H0 + V. First, we consider the asymptotic behaviour of the Krein spectral shift function (SSF) for the operator pair (H,H0), near the Landau levels which play the role of thresholds in the spectrum of H0. We show that the SSF has singularities near the Landau levels, and describe these singularities in terms of appropriate Berezin - Toeplitz operators. Further, we define the resonances for the operator H and investigate their asymptotic distribution near the Landau levels. We show that under suitable assumptions on the potential V there are infinitely many resonances near every fixed Landau level. We find the main asymptotic term of the corresponding resonance counting function, which again is expressed in terms of the Berezin - Toeplitz operators arising in the description of the SSF singularities. The talk is based on joint works with J.-F. Bony, V. Bruneau, and C. Fernández.

14h - 15h Giuseppe De Nittis (Cergy) Wannier Transform for Quasicrystals

Résumé:
In this talk I will present some preliminary results on a work in progress concerning the natural extension of the Bloch theory to the challenging study of quasicrystals. The aim of the work is to define a Bloch-like decomposition for the quasicrystal-Hamiltonians, namely for a (one-particle) Schrödinger operator with an interaction which is the sum of short range atomic potentials with atoms located on an aperiodic repetitive Delone set with finite local complexity. The Anderson-Putnam complex related to the Voronoi tiling of the aperiodic set as well its associated Lagarias group will play a crucial role for the generalisation of the Wannier transform and for the definition of a suitable space of Bloch-type functions. The quasicrystal-Hamiltonian will be shown to have a Bloch-like representation as a family of operators defined by means of parameter-dependent boundary conditions. The operator domains will be characterized in terms of a cohomological description. Comments will be made about the potential applications of such method for the analysis of the energy spectrum of quasicrystals.

15h15 - 16h15 Hajer Bahouri (Créteil) Lack of compactness in the 2D critical Sobolev embedding

Résumé:
The study of lack of compactness in Sobolev embedding is very useful for instance in the Calculus of Variations, but also in the study of various types of Partial Differential Equations (semilinear wave and Schrödinger equations, exponential type nonlinearities, Navier-Stokes equations). The aim of this talk is to present results on the charac- terization of the lack of compactness of 2D critical Sobolev embedding and to investigate the feature of the solutions of non linear wave equation with exponential growth.

11h15 - 12h15   Amandine Aftalion (Versailles-St-Quentin) Two component condensates: phase separation and vortex lattices

Résumé:
The aim of this talk is to describe the main features arising in the description of a rotating two component condensate. I will classify the ground states (regions of coexistence of the components, phase separation and symmetry breaking) and the types of defects. Analytical justifications of some phenomena will be made thanks to a nonlinear sigma model describing the condensate in terms of the total density and pseudo spin representation. In particular, we will estimate the total density in the Thomas-Fermi regime and derive a vortex energy that discriminates between the square and triangular vortex lattices. Finally, we will describe relations of this problem with De Giorgi type problems arising in elliptic PDEs and show how phase separation occurs as a Gamma limit of a Modica Mortola type energy.

Relativistic Scott correction in self-generated magnetic fields

Abstract:
We consider a large neutral molecule with total nuclear charge Z in a model with self-generated classical magnetic field and where the kinetic energy of the electrons is treated relativistically. To ensure stability, we assume that Zα<2/π , where α denotes the fine structure constant. We are interested in the ground state energy in the simultaneous limit Z →∞ , α → 0 such that κ = Zα is fixed. The leading term in the energy asymptotics is independent of κ, it is given by the Thomas-Fermi energy of order Z7/3 and it is unchanged by including the self-generated magnetic field. We prove the first correction term to this energy, the so-called Scott correction of the form S(αZ)Z2. This extends the result of Solovej–Sorensen–Spitzer on the Scott correction for relativistic molecules to include a self-generated magnetic field. Furthermore, we show that the corresponding Scott correction function S, is unchanged by including a magnetic field. We also prove new Lieb-Thirring inequalities for the relativistic kinetic energy with magnetic fields.
This is joint work with László Erdös and Jan Philip Solovej.

Quantum Brownian motion

Résumé:
This talk concerns the rigorous derivation of diffusion, thermalization and decoherence in simple quantum systems: a spin or a particle interacting with phonons. Our approach takes the Markovian description (Pauli master equation or
quantum Boltzmann equation) as a starting point. However, since such a Markovian description is only valid in a certain scaling limit (vanishing coupling constant and long time), we develop an expansion around the Markovian description to control the behavior at finite coupling constant.  This expansion consists of a controlled renormalization group flow with Brownian motion as the fixed-point solution.

The long-range nature of the velocity-velocity correlation function is an example of a physical quantity that is not described correctly within the Markovian description (cf.Alder-Wainwright), but that is captured by our approach.
