This talk is based on 1805.05398, and it focuses on gravitational Wilson lines in AdS$_3$. These objects are known to properly probe bulk physics, by coupling matter to 3-dimensional gravity in Chern-Simons formalism. In the context of holography, the Wilson lines are used to compute probe scalar two-point functions at the boundary of locally AdS$_3$ geometries. The usual analysis is performed in the semi-classical approximation of the probe field, and this work we evaluate the Wilson line beyond this limit. We provide a refined interpretation of the gravitational Wilson line in AdS$_3$ in terms of Ishibashi states. This gives us a novel way to explore and reconstruct the local bulk dynamics: we can reinterpret the Wilson line as an overlap of two local bulk states. We use this to find local bulk fields dual CFT operators, including in black hole backgrounds.
