Holographic Deep Inelastic Scattering: Polarized mesons and Spin-1/2 targets at small-x from string theory

Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) has been crucial process in the study of hadrons and the physics of confinement in QCD over the last 40 years. In 2002, Polchinski and Strassler presented a holographic description of this process in the context of a theory with some features similar to QCD, focusing mainly on scalar targets and adjoint matter. The supergravity description is accurate enough for moderate values of the Bjorken parameter $x$, but stringy effects have to be included at small-$x$. We present an overview of the original set-up and show how to apply it to more realistic situations with less supersymmetry and including mesonic targets in the fundamental representation. We also analyze in detail the possible contributions to antisymmetric and parity violating structure functions, including the interesting exponentially small-$x$ parametric region. Finally, we present some qualitative comparisons with experimental results. \\ \\The original material presented in this talk is mainly based on the following papers: arXiv1412.6509, arXiv:1711.06171.
