The KPZ equation is a well-known model equation for describing surface growth. There are renewed interests in the equation itself and applications because of recent theoretical and experimental developments. In this talk we explain the exact solutions of the one-dimensional KPZ equation and its universality. We also discuss connections to various models like Bose gas, Toda lattice, interacting Brownian motions, and mention a few open questions.
