Methods for Non-Equilibrium Statistical Mechanics (12h)

1. Master Equation and stochastic processes:

From the master equation to stochastic calculus, path integral formulation, examples of non Gaussian and non white noises.

2. In, or out of equilibrium:

Characterizing equilibrium, statistical mechanics with time realizations, entropy production.

3. Rare events, metastability and nucleation:

A random walk example, tracking dynamics backwards in time.

4. Population dynamics:

Discovering the world of stochastic PDEs, epidemic processes, Prey-Predator.

5. Coarse-grained descriptions of active systems:

Collective phenomena, with and without field-mediated interactions.
